Junior/Trainee Accountant

Role Description This is a full-time Junior/Trainee Accountant role based in the City of London, offered on a hybrid basis with some work-from-home flexibility. The role involves supporting day-to-day accounting operations, including posting journals, handling accounts payable and receivable entries, and assisting with bank reconciliations. The Junior/Trainee Accountant will help prepare monthly reports, assist in maintaining accurate ledgers, and support the production of management information for underwriting and operations teams. The role includes collaborating with senior finance colleagues to ensure timely invoicing, expense processing, and compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will also contribute to process improvement initiatives and learn core insurance accounting concepts relevant to a specialty MGA environment.

Qualifications

• Foundational accounting knowledge and skills, including double-entry bookkeeping, basic financial reporting, and familiarity with ledgers.
• Proficiency with accounting or ERP software and Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivots, reconciliations).
• Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain organised financial records.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across finance, underwriting, and operations.
• Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work reliably in a hybrid setup (office and home).
• Relevant education such as a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Interest in pursuing a professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with support from the employer.
• Curiosity about insurance and specialty risk, and willingness to learn the specifics of MGA finance and reporting.
