Sous Chef — The Owl, Loughton (2/3 positions available)

Start date: Between 14th September and 12th October 2026 (subject to minor changes) — The Owl is currently closed for a major refurbishment and is due to reopen to the public on 27 October 2026.

The Owl, a soon to be newly refurbished pub on the edge of Epping Forest, is recruiting for its kitchen team and looking for two or three Sous Chefs to support our Head Chef in delivering excellent food day in, day out. Whether you're looking to step up or bring solid experience to a strong team, we'd like to hear from you. You'll play a important role in maintaining The Owl's long-built reputation for excellent food and service.

Initial three-month live-in accommodation may be available, subject to additional space being created due to refurbishment plans and satisfactory checks.

What you'll do

• Prepare and cook dishes to menu specification and quality standards
• Support the Head Chef in running the kitchen and covering shifts
• Maintain food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
• Help manage stock control and minimise waste
• Step up to lead the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
• Work closely with front-of-house to keep service smooth during busy periods

What we're looking for

• Previous experience in a chef or cook role within hospitality or a restaurant kitchen
• Solid food safety knowledge and cooking technique
• Able to work well under pressure as part of a team
• Reliable, organised, and keen to develop within the role

Pay: £13.49-£13.51 per hour
