NSA Motor Vehicles is looking for a motivated, reliable and hands-on Junior Mechanic to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with some basic mechanical experience who is looking to develop their skills and build a career in the motor trade. The successful candidate will assist with vehicle inspections, servicing, basic repairs and vehicle preparation, helping ensure our stock is prepared to the standards expected by NSA Motor Vehicles.

We are happy to train the right person who has a positive attitude, a genuine interest in vehicles and a willingness to learn. You do not need to be a fully experienced mechanic, but you should have some basic mechanical knowledge and be comfortable working in a busy workshop environment.

Duties

Vehicle Inspections and Preparation

  • Carry out initial vehicle inspections and PDI checks to identify and record faults or issues.

  • Assist with preparing vehicles for sale and customer collection.

  • Identify and report mechanical issues that require further investigation or specialist repairs.

  • Ensure inspection sheets and relevant vehicle documentation are completed accurately.

  • Work with the vehicle preparation team to ensure outstanding work is identified and completed.

  • Assist with vehicle movements and maintaining an organised vehicle stock area.

Servicing and Basic Repairs

  • Assist with routine servicing and maintenance, including oil and filter changes.

  • Carry out basic mechanical repairs appropriate to your level of experience and training.

  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing wiper blades and carrying out basic brake work under appropriate supervision.

  • Help identify mechanical faults and develop diagnostic skills with guidance from experienced mechanics.

  • Ensure all work is completed safely and to the required standard.

  • Recognise when a job is beyond your current experience and seek guidance when required.

Workshop Organisation and Safety

  • Keep the workshop clean, tidy and organised.

  • Ensure tools and equipment are used correctly and stored safely.

  • Follow workshop health and safety procedures at all times.

  • Help maintain an efficient workflow and ensure vehicles move through the preparation process.

  • Work closely with the sales and vehicle preparation teams to meet agreed deadlines.* Take responsibility for assigned tasks and ensure work is completed properly.

Skills and Experience

  • Some basic mechanical experience, whether through previous employment, training or working on your own vehicles.

  • A genuine interest in cars, vehicle maintenance and the motor trade.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and develop practical mechanical knowledge.

  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

  • A full UK driving licence is desirable.

  • Previous motor trade experience or relevant qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential.

Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Reliable, punctual and self-motivated.

  • Practical, hands-on and keen to learn.

  • Organised, methodical and attentive to detail.

  • Willing to take direction and learn from more experienced mechanics.

  • Honest about their abilities and confident asking for help when needed.

  • Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced motor-trade environment.

  • Someone who takes pride in their work and wants to develop their skills over time.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in vehicles and wants to build their mechanical experience. You do not need to know everything already, but you should be willing to get stuck in, learn from others and take pride in doing a job properly. If you have some basic mechanical experience and are looking for an opportunity to progress within the motor trade, we would like to hear from you.
