Junior Infrastructure Engineer
The Role
As our Junior Infrastructure Engineer, you will:
- Help build and support the cloud infrastructure that underpins our SaaS products and internal tooling – this will be your primary focus.
- Support our Oracle RDBMS and middleware and our end user computing estate – for example, database patching and backups, user requests, and device management through Intune – learning these technologies and helping the wider team support them (no prior experience needed).
- Plan, implement and test solutions with growing independence, knowing when to ask for help.
- Learn how our infrastructure works and suggest improvements.
- Help build proof-of-concept solutions to evaluate new technologies.
- Write clear documentation so others can understand and build on your work.
- Learn from experienced engineers, who will mentor you on technology, architecture and best practices.
What you’ll bring
- A proactive, self-starting attitude and a willingness to ask questions.
- Curiosity and an appetite for exploring new technologies.
- A genuine enjoyment of learning from others and sharing what you learn.
- A belief that constant improvement underpins good engineering.
Requirements
Essential:
- 1–2 years’ experience in an infrastructure, cloud, or IT operations role, or a relevant degree plus around a year of industry experience (for example, a placement year or internship). Certifications such as AWS Cloud Practitioner are a plus.
- An understanding of how cloud infrastructure supports production services.
- Some hands-on experience with core AWS services such as EC2, VPC, ECS, RDS, and IAM, alongside a basic understanding of cloud security and networking fundamentals (for example, VPCs, subnets, and firewall rules).
- Exposure to, or a strong interest in, Infrastructure-as-Code tools (for example, Terraform or similar) and version control such as Git.
- A basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines that enable automated, reliable delivery of infrastructure changes.
- Awareness of monitoring and observability concepts, including metrics, logging, and alerting.
- Basic scripting ability in a language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate operational tasks and workflows.
Desirable:
- Exposure to Microsoft 365 services such as Entra ID, Intune, Defender, and Conditional Access.
- Experience with Oracle RDBMS, Oracle middleware, or PostgreSQL.
- Some experience using Linux and Windows, including the command line; exposure to Ansible is a bonus.
- Familiarity to containers (for example, Docker or ECS, our current platform) or Kubernetes/EKS.
