MET Healthcare UK Limited
Junior Estimator
Junior Estimator — MET HealthcareJob Summary
MET Healthcare is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator to support the preparation of quotations, cost estimates and tender submissions for our healthcare installation, refurbishment and maintenance contracts.
You will work alongside our commercial, project management and engineering teams, helping to price projects including air handling unit replacements, ventilation upgrades, mechanical and electrical installations, lighting replacement and operating theatre refurbishment.
This is an opportunity to develop your estimating skills through practical involvement in projects, supplier enquiries and site surveys. The role would suit someone beginning their estimating career or a candidate with relevant construction or building-services experience looking to move into a commercial role.
Responsibilities
- Review project information: Examine drawings, specifications, schedules and scopes of work to understand project requirements and identify information needed to prepare an estimate.
- Prepare quantities and cost estimates: Assist with measuring quantities from drawings and building up costs for materials, labour, plant, equipment, subcontractors, site overheads, testing and commissioning.
- Obtain and compare quotations: Issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors, follow up responses and compare prices, scope coverage, exclusions and lead times.
- Support site surveys: Attend site visits with MET’s project managers and engineers to understand existing installations, access arrangements and practical requirements that may affect pricing.
- Identify risks and scope gaps: Help record assumptions, exclusions, missing information and clarification questions for review by the commercial and technical teams.
- Support tender submissions: Prepare quotation breakdowns, pricing schedules and supporting documents, ensuring submissions are accurate, clearly presented and completed within agreed deadlines.
- Consider healthcare working arrangements: Allow for project-specific requirements such as restricted access, phased works, planned shutdowns, out-of-hours working and protection of occupied areas, with guidance from the delivery team.
- Maintain estimating records: Keep supplier quotations, calculations, drawing revisions and correspondence organised. Assist with updating cost information, pricing variations and handing over successful estimates to the project team.
Requirements
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with close attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, together with confidence using Word, Outlook and digital document systems.
- An interest in construction, mechanical and electrical building services, and how projects are priced and delivered.
- Clear communication skills and confidence liaising with colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing tasks, follow up outstanding information and work towards submission deadlines.
- A proactive approach to learning, willingness to ask questions and ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and as part of a team.
A qualification in quantity surveying, construction management, engineering or a related subject would be advantageous but is not essential. We also welcome candidates with relevant practical trade experience or transferable skills.
Previous exposure to technical drawings, estimating software, Bluebeam, Procore or supplier quotation comparisons would be beneficial. Healthcare-sector experience is an advantage, but it is not essential for this junior role.
Working With MET Healthcare
