Build a career learning how organisations identify problems, improve performance and turn complex information into practical action. You will work closely with experienced business consultants, gaining direct insight into how they plan projects, assess commercial challenges, exercise business judgement and make informed recommendations. Alongside structured training and regular feedback, you will contribute to genuine consulting work and develop skills that can support a long-term career in the profession.

About the role

We are an established management consultancy helping organisations improve the way they operate and perform. Our work covers business analysis, process improvement, operational performance, change management, risk and strategic advisory.

As a Junior Business Consultant, you will support projects led by senior colleagues while learning how consulting engagements progress from initial discovery and research through to recommendations and delivery. Your week will combine analytical work, project meetings, research, documentation and exposure to different organisations and business challenges.

Why consider this position?

  • This is a practical entry point into business consulting where you will learn through structured training and active involvement in projects.
  • You will have the opportunity to:
  • Observe how experienced consultants approach complex commercial and operational problems
  • Build transferable skills in research, analysis, process improvement and project coordination
  • Develop practical ability using Excel, PowerPoint and business-analysis methods
  • Receive regular feedback as your responsibilities increase
  • Follow a clearly explained consulting career pathway
  • For candidates exploring graduate business careers in Birmingham, the position provides useful professional experience without requiring previous consultancy employment.

What you will be doing

  • Your responsibilities will develop with your knowledge and demonstrated capability. Initially, you can expect to:
  • Review client performance information and identify relevant trends, gaps or inconsistencies
  • Research markets, sectors and operating practices to support project findings
  • Help identify inefficient processes and potential areas for operational improvement
  • Use Excel to organise, check and interpret numerical and written information
  • Update process maps, project documents, trackers and supporting records
  • Attend meetings with a Senior Consultant and document actions and follow-up points
  • Support client discovery and information-gathering meetings
  • Prepare PowerPoint slides that communicate findings clearly
  • The early focus will be on learning our methods, producing consistently accurate work and understanding how individual project activities contribute to the wider client outcome.

Your first 12 months

During your first three months, you will learn our project processes and documentation standards. Training will cover business analysis, process mapping, professional communication and the practical use of Excel, PowerPoint and project-management systems.

You will shadow discovery meetings and internal project reviews while supporting research, meeting documentation and data preparation. A Senior Consultant or Engagement Manager will provide regular feedback, with an initial focus on accuracy, reliability, professional communication and deadline management.

Between months three and twelve, depending on your performance, you may begin managing defined research tasks independently, conducting structured information-gathering conversations and presenting findings during internal meetings. You could also produce first drafts of recommendations, coordinate smaller project activities and become responsible for a clearly defined part of a client engagement.

A formal salary and development review will take place after 12 months. This provides an opportunity to assess your performance and readiness for greater responsibility, but it does not guarantee a salary increase or promotion.

What we are looking for

Previous consultancy experience is not required. We welcome applications from recent graduates, early-career professionals and people transferring from another professional environment.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Analytical thinking and practical problem-solving ability
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Confidence working with numbers and written information
  • Good organisation and deadline management
  • Willingness to develop your Excel, PowerPoint and business-analysis skills
  • Professionalism when working with colleagues and clients
  • Curiosity about how organisations operate and improve

Apply with your current CV, we will start the recruitment process within a week of the application.
