Junior Broker
Junior Broker / Client Opener
Location: Brentwood, Essex
Employment: Full-time, office-based
Package: Basic salary + performance-related commission
Progression: Junior Broker / Client Opener → Broker
About the Role
As we continue to grow our team in Brentwood, we are looking for ambitious and
motivated people who are interested in starting a career in sales and brokerage.
This is an entry-level opportunity, and previous sales or brokerage experience is not
required.
We are looking primarily for people with the right attitude — individuals who are
reliable, hard-working, confident communicating with others and keen to learn.
You do not need any previous knowledge of the whisky market. Full training will be
provided across our business, the market and the skills required to develop within
the role.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Junior Broker / Client Opener, you will work alongside our experienced
brokerage team and help develop new client opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Speaking with prospective clients by telephone
- Following up enquiries and maintaining regular contact with prospect
- Building rapport and understanding client requirements
- Qualifying potential opportunities
- Handling initial questions and objections
- Booking qualified appointments for senior brokers
- Developing your knowledge of the whisky cask market
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date CRM records
- Working towards agreed individual and team objectives
Your initial focus will be on developing strong communication skills, learning how to
manage prospective client conversations and understanding how the brokerage
process works.
As your experience develops, there will be opportunities to take on greater
responsibility and progress towards a full Broker position.
Who We’re Looking For
We are not looking for a particular background or a certain type of CV.
Instead, we are interested in people who can demonstrate:
- A positive and professional attitude
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Confidence speaking with new people
- Good communication and listening skills
- Resilience and persistence
- A willingness to learn and take feedback
- Ambition and a desire to progress
- A commercial mindset and motivation to perform
- The ability to work well within a team
Previous experience in sales, telesales, recruitment, estate agency, customer
service or another client-facing environment can be useful, but it is not essential.
For us, attitude and potential are more important than previous experience.
Training and Development
You will receive structured training and ongoing support as you develop within the
business.
This will include:
- An introduction to the whisky cask market
- Understanding our brokerage process
- Telephone and client communication
- Lead qualification
- Objection handling
- CRM and pipeline management
- Working alongside experienced members of the brokerage team
We are looking for people who want to develop over the longer term rather than
simply step into a short-term sales position.
Earnings and Progression
The role includes a basic salary alongside a performance-related commission
structure.
As you develop your skills and take on greater responsibility, there is the opportunity
to increase both your earnings and your position within the business.
The commission structure and progression pathway will be discussed openly during
the interview process so that candidates have a clear understanding of the
opportunity before joining.
What to Expect
This is a telephone-based role within a busy sales environment.
You will be speaking with prospective clients regularly, working towards clear
objectives and learning how to deal with conversations that do not always result in
an immediate opportunity.
For someone who enjoys communicating with people, wants to develop
commercially and is comfortable working towards measurable goals, it can provide a
strong foundation for a career in brokerage.
We do not expect you to arrive as an experienced salesperson.
We are looking for people who are prepared to learn, work consistently and develop.
Interested?
If you are at the beginning of your career, considering a move into sales or looking
for an opportunity where you can develop professionally within a growing team, we
would be interested in speaking with you.
No degree required. No previous brokerage experience required. No previous
knowledge of whisky required.
If you have the attitude, work ethic and ambition, we can teach you the rest.
