Junior Book keeper/Payroll
Junior Bookkeeper - £25,000 pa to £27,500pa depending on experience
Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and organised Junior Bookkeeper to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their bookkeeping and accounting skills within a professional practice environment.
The successful candidate will assist the Senior Book keeper with maintaining a portfolio of clients, and delivering an excellent standard of customer service. You will work closely with the clients, HMRC, and colleagues to ensure all bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, and compliance obligations are met accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping
- Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations using Xero.
- Ensure all bank balances reconcile accurately to supporting records.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients.
- Report directly to the Senior Book keeper in order to complete bookkeeping work.
VAT Returns
- Prepare monthly and quarterly VAT returns.
- Review transactions to ensure entries have been posted to the correct nominal ledger codes.
- Ensure VAT returns are submitted accurately and within statutory deadlines.
Payroll
- Assist with the processing of weekly and monthly payrolls using BrightPay and Xero.
- Assist with producing and distributing payslips to employees.
- Assist with responding to payroll-related queries from clients and liaise with HMRC when required.
CIS and PAYE
- Work with the senior book keeper to prepare and submit monthly CIS returns.
- Calculate monthly PAYE liabilities, including clients affected by CIS deductions.
- Assist with year-end reconciliations of payroll and CIS balances.
- Liaise with HMRC regarding overpayments and reclaim applications where appropriate.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and client service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines.
- Experience using Xero or a willingness to learn quickly.
Desirable
- Previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice or finance role.
- Experience using Quickbooks
- Experience processing payroll and preparing VAT returns.
- Knowledge of CIS and PAYE procedures.
